What is a commercial coffee machine?

A commercial coffee machine is a machine built for daily use in a business setting. Unlike a home machine, it is designed to produce drink after drink without slowing down, and to do so reliably for years. The build quality, the heating system and the components are all engineered for repeat use, which is what allows the machine to keep up when you are serving anywhere from a handful of cups a day to several hundred.

The right one for any business depends on the type of coffee you want to serve and the way your team will be using it.

How to choose the right type for your business

There are three main types of commercial coffee machine, and the right one for your business depends on how coffee fits into what you do.

Bean to cup machines grind fresh beans for every drink and make the cup at the press of a button. They are the natural choice for offices, hotels and hospitality businesses that want quality coffee without needing to train a barista.

Traditional espresso machines are operated by a barista and give the most control over how each cup is made. They are the right choice for cafes, restaurants and specialty coffee shops where coffee is part of what brings customers in.

Instant machines mix soluble coffee with hot water for each drink. They are simple to use, easy to look after and the right answer for busy environments where ease of service is the priority.

After install, you have one team handling your coffee, supplies and any technical support, so you are never juggling multiple suppliers when something needs sorting. We have engineer coverage wherever your business is and our office is on the end of the phone whenever you need us.

Common questions about commercial coffee machines

How do commercial coffee machines work?
It depends on the type. A bean to cup machine grinds fresh beans, pulls the shot and froths the milk automatically when someone presses a button. A traditional espresso machine holds water at the right temperature for espresso, and a barista makes each drink by hand. An instant machine mixes soluble coffee with hot water for each cup. All three are built to make the same quality of drink over and over, hundreds of times a day.
Do commercial coffee machines need plumbing?
Most do, but not all. Traditional espresso machines need to be plumbed to mains water with a waste outlet. Bean to cup machines run best on mains water but can be set up with a water tank or bottled water where plumbing is not practical. Instant machines work on mains water or a bottled water kit. Whichever type you go with, a water filter is essential.
How often does a commercial coffee machine need cleaning?
Daily. Every commercial coffee machine needs a daily clean to keep performing and to last. Bean to cup machines with fresh milk need the milk lines cleaning every day without exception. From our experience, eight in ten of the faults we are called out to come down to inadequate cleaning rather than a mechanical issue. Keep on top of it and the machine will look after you.
Can I lease a commercial coffee machine?
Yes. We work with specialist coffee equipment finance companies to arrange leasing on any machine in our range. Buying outright works out cheaper over the life of the machine if the cash is there, but leasing spreads the cost into monthly payments and frees up cash for the rest of the business. Get in touch and we will walk you through both options based on your numbers.
What size commercial coffee machine do I need?
It depends on daily drink volume and machine type. Smaller bean to cup machines suit lower volume sites. Larger bean to cup machines cope with hundreds of drinks a day. Traditional espresso machines can keep up with whatever the barista can serve. Instant machines handle very high volumes comfortably. We always ask about volume in the first conversation so we can recommend a machine that will actually keep up.
Do you supply the coffee and ingredients too?
Yes. We supply our own range of coffee alongside the ingredients, cups and cleaning products that go with it. Next day delivery on consumables across the UK, so you have one place to call when you need anything.
